Sales rep “pitch” their offerings all the time, it makes sense then to make it effective.
Sharing my thoughts for your review and adoption.
âś… 1. Know thy customer
One of the BEST ways to attract attention from customers is to learn about them at multiple levels
Focus on their culture, vision, mission and values
Understand their “strategic priorities” for long term
Learn the motivators and drivers for your buyers
âś… 2. ALL about solving problems, not selling products
Pick ONE problem/need or a strategic priority
Demonstrate depth with details…
Show evidence where you have done, what results you delivered for other customers
Quantify benefits; revenue, profitability, cost savings, productivity
âś… 3. Channels and Messages
Determine which channels you want to choose for outreach
Tailor your messaging per the channel; phone, email, social media,
Ads (retargeting, PPC)
Consistency of your value proposition is super important irrespective of the channel, team or individual
Practice pitches especially when talking to customers over phone and during demonstrations
âś… 4. People buy from people
We ALL know this, people buy from people. Establishing trust, credibility are critical
Know who you are pitching to? CIO, CDO, CTO, CFO. Your messaging must resonate to what C-suite leader cares about.
Messaging and value proposition changes with the context of business environment. For example; retail, travel, banking, insurance…
Add value to your customers in every interaction
âś… 5. Be deliberate about outcomes, at each stage
Be clear and emphatic about what outcome you are seeking at each interaction with your customer
For example; block time for next meeting, responding to a questionnaire.
